Acupuncture & Massage Therapy

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of treatment, standing the test of time.  It is a
technique of traditional Chinese medicine, in which very fine, sterilized, and disposable needles are inserted into the skin at specific and designated points.  Acupuncture has been used for 2,500 years for pain relief and the treatment of various ailments and conditions, some of which include allergies, acne, PMS and menstrual cramps, hemorrhoids, headaches, ulcers, hypertension, depression, gout, and addictions.

The traditional Chinese philosophy of acupuncture, is based on the life-force energy flow of the body, or Qi ("chi").  When energy flow is impeded or blocked at any point, pain, illness or disease may result.  Stimulation of the specific points can correct the imbalances.

Western practitioners and research have suggested that acupuncture works by stimulating or repressing the autonomic nervous system in various ways, affecting organ function by means of nerve reflex pathways.  Acupuncture also stimulates the release of the body's natural pain relieving chemicals called endorphins and opiates.

One of the great advantages of acupuncture, is that there are virtually no negative side effects.  As the energy of the body is re-balanced, and the natural hormones and chemicals are released by the body, healing begins.

Dr. Thaxton has been licensed and practicing acupuncture since 1990.
